Over the past six years, Xomnia has grown quite a bit. We started as a social media analytics startup that rented out its office on AirBnb on weekends to survive. Now, we’re an established data science and data engineering consultancy with over 80 employees. We work with clients from a wide range of sectors from aviation and healthcare to government. Our clients are happy with our results, and so are we.
But now that we have shown that we’re a serious(-ish) company, we think it’s time to grow our ambitions. We’re excited by the many global challenges waiting to be tackled (the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals highlight some of the most pressing), and we have amazingly talented people. Putting our team to work on these issues just makes sense.
We’ve made a small start – at our quarterly competition day in early April we challenged our Xomnians to reduce Xomnia’s energy footprint using our smart meters and wifi data with great results, and this fall we’ll launch SustAIn, an opportunity for sustainable start-ups, non-profits, or academic projects to receive support and mentorship on applying data analytics to their project. But that’s not enough – we plan for sustainability to be a pillar of our business as we grow. And we’re pretty certain that there are massive business opportunities in those areas crucial to the world’s well-being.
That’s why I’m currently at the artificial intelligence for Global Good Summit. This four-day conference is dedicated to showing how AI can help us make progress towards the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. With topics as wild and diverse as AI for Space, Robotics for Good, and Artificial Intelligence, Human Dignity and Inclusive Societies, there’s a lot of ground to cover.
I’ll be there to learn (a lot), meet new people, hopefully find some cool cases, and to share. I’ll post a summary about each day, so keep an eye on our page. If you happen to be attending shoot me a message!
Stay tuned!
